Welcome to Ambient Electronica! This is a blog and resource for all your ambient electronica needs. My name is Eric, and I have been an ambient electronica aficionado since the early 2000s.

Ambient electronica is my passion. It represents everything I love about music: it’s experimental, but not in an alienating way; it’s beautiful, but also has a subversive edge; and most importantly, it transcends language and culture. This is music without borders, music that anyone can enjoy.

Ambient electronica has been around since the 1970’s and was first introduced by an artist called Brian Eno. The word ‘ambient’ means a musical atmosphere or environment and was coined by Eno to describe his own musical style.

The genre of ambient electronica has gone through many stages since the 70’s and today there are many different styles of ambient electronica available. There is everything from the traditional ambient sound created by Brian Eno to modern day ambient trance which incorporates more upbeat sounds and melodies.

Ambient Electronica can be divided into two categories: Ambient House and Ambient Techno. While both genres are similar in their utilizations of electronics and synthesizers, each has a very distinct sound. Ambient House tends towards more melodic sounds, often paired with vocals (either sampled or sung by an artist), while Ambient Techno has more of a dance feel that usually eschews vocals for musicality.

To understand Ambient Electronica, you first have to understand what Ambience is. Ambience is a quality that’s meant to relax you and put you into a trance-like state. Some people call it “easy listening,” but that isn’t really accurate because easy listening isn’t always ambient; sometimes it just sounds like elevator music.
