I was first introduced to these strategies when I started my career as an electronic music producer. When I first started producing electronic music, I realized that in order for my songs to sound professional, I needed to have a loud vocal track.
But when I started recording the vocals for my songs, I realized that due to my poor singers voice (I was only 18 at the time), my vocals sounded very weak and almost non-existent. So instead of scrapping all of my work, I decided to try and figure out how to increase the volume of my vocals so they would stand out more in my songs.
And after trying different techniques and strategies, I realized that there were certain tricks of the trade that worked better than others. So without further ado let’s dive into what these three proven strategies are:
The vocal volume of a singer is determined by the size and quality of their voice. But, with proper technique, even a small voice can project a very loud sound. I have 3 proven strategies that will help you increase your vocal volume without straining your voice or using excessive air.
The first step, and the most important part of increasing your volume, is to make sure you are singing from your diaphragm. This is accomplished by taking in a large breath of air and letting it rest on the bottom of your lungs. When you exhale, only use as much air as it takes to sing at a comfortable pitch and volume.
The second strategy for increasing your vocal volume is to find and feel where the resonance of your voice lives in your body. It is best to do this with a piano or another instrument so you can hear exactly what note you are singing. Sing along with the piano at a medium pitch and volume until you feel where the resonance lives inside of you. If it feels like it’s coming from your chest, back, or neck then you’re not singing from your diaphragm. Try this exercise again until you feel the resonance in the center of your face just above the bridge of your nose (this is called mask resonance).

To do this, start by singing scales on an “hmm” sound with as much air as possible. As you sing higher, use even more air so that you are pushing from your diaphragm (the area below your rib cage). You should feel the air pushing against the back of your throat as you sing higher notes.
