As an electronic music DJ, I have attended countless weddings and seen many different types of DJs. Some were good and some were absolutely awful. As an electronic DJ who has been booked for weddings and big events, I’ve seen it all. The good and the bad. The successes and the failures.

In this article I’m going to take you through some of the things that I’ve learnt along the way about being an awesome wedding DJ, so that you can be as successful as you can be when performing at someone’s big day.

The first thing that I want to say here is that it’s important not to forget why you’re doing this job in the first place: because it’s fun! It’s really easy to get caught up in all the “business” side of things, but remember that if you’re not enjoying yourself then your audience won’t either.

Taking the time to plan for a wedding can be exciting, but it also can be exhausting. With so many things to consider and decisions to be made, such as the location of the wedding reception and ceremony, who will perform and more, it is important to get help from people who have been there before.

I personally have been a DJ for over 20 years. I started out as a mobile DJ and now work as an electronic DJ at nightclubs across the country. I’ve played at many weddings with both types of DJs and know what it takes to make a great wedding reception.

Here are 4 tips that I offer all couples planning their wedding:

1) Ask friends and family for referrals

Take the time to ask friends, family members or acquaintances who recently got married about their experience with their DJ. These people often can give you valuable information on how the DJ performed and if they were satisfied with their service.

2) Consider hiring two DJs

It is important that your guests are entertained from start to finish. If you are planning on hosting an event that lasts a long time (6+ hours), consider hiring two DJs so that one is able to take a break when needed. This way, your guests always are entertained by someone who knows exactly
