Top 5 Prog Electronic Musicians of the 60’s and 70’s: A blog about classic artists that created some of the best music during their time.

With the recent passing of David Bowie, we lost one of the most forward thinking and influential artists of our time. Although Bowie was a pioneer in many genres of music, he was perhaps most influential in electronic music. His influence on electronic music is not only heard, but also seen in big name artists such as Trent Reznor who have been known to cite him as an influence for their own music.

Although Bowie’s passing is a huge loss for many fans across multiple genres, it has also brought attention to other artists from his generation that have been overlooked by many modern listeners, which is why I decided to compile a list of five classic progressive electronic musicians from the 60’s and 70’s that are worth listening to.

Today, I want to talk about some of the greats who helped pioneer electronic music in the 60’s and 70’s. I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this topic, because I think most of you are quite familiar with these musicians, but if you aren’t, I hope this blog helps point you in the right direction.

Electronic music is different than other genres because it gives producers and artists the ability to create sounds that can’t be produced by traditional instruments, and it has become a major part of modern music today. Many great artists have paved the way for other artists to explore this genre, so let’s take a look at my list of top 5 prog electronic musicians from the 60’s and 70’s.

This German band has been producing since 1970 and they have been described as “electro pioneers” by many. Music was also a big part of this revolution, as it brought people together from all backgrounds to fight for what they believed in.

Progressive electronic music was one of the main genres at this time. The genre is characterized by long compositions, large arrangements and elaborate instrumentation with a focus on sonic effects and overall sound–very similar to rock music.

The world has seen a significant amount of musical genres emerge over the last 100 years. From progressive rock to rap, music has evolved into something that was not imaginable in the early 1900s. One genre that has held its own over the decades is progressive electronic. This genre of music is often regrouped with other categories such as progressive rock and jazz fusion, but it has a sound all on its own.

Some of the best known musicians who played progressive electronic were born in the 60’s and 70’s. William Orbit, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kevin Braheny Fortune and Kitaro are just a few artists who created some of the best music during their time. Each made their mark on prog rock and influenced many younger musicians who would go on to create music for others to enjoy. Many of these musicians have won awards for their work and have been inducted into various halls of fame.

It is interesting to listen to some of these classic songs and try to see how they now influence today’s music. Some of these songs were used in commercials and movies throughout the 80’s and 90’s which helped keep them popular with new generations of listeners. While some styles may come and go

Progressive Electronic Music describes a style of music that took shape in the late 60’s and early 70’s. It was at this time in which electronic music was becoming very popular. It was also at this time that music in general was starting to change and become more progressive. This post will take a look at some of the best artists who played in this genre.

The first two artist are Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. Both of these artists were from Germany and both have been important players in the prog electronic movement.

Tangerine Dream is known for their use of synthesizers and for their improvisations during live performances. They were signed to Virgin Records in 1973, which helped them gain more exposure in the United Kingdom and United States. The band still continues to perform live today with founder Edgar Froese along with Thorsten Quaeschning and Hoshiko Yamane.

Another well known German musician is Klaus Schulze from Berlin. He played drums for Ash Ra Temple before embarking on his own solo career which started in the early 70’s. He has released over 50 albums since then including a collaboration album with Tangerine Dream called “Mishandled” (1988). His most

Electronic music has been around for a very long time, but it was not until the 1960’s that people really started to use it in songs. The first synthesizer was created in 1928 by composer and physicist, Robert Moog. His creation was very primitive and could only produce one sound at a time. However, this opened the door for future artists to create new sounds that had never before existed.

In the mid 60’s, many European composers began to experiment with electronic music and ended up creating some of the most beautiful pieces ever made. These composers are considered pioneers of electronic music because they paved the way for future artists to follow their lead.

Many of these artists have since passed away, but there is a huge legacy that they left behind in electronic music. Here are five of my favorite electronic musicians from the 60’s and 70’s:

Richard Wright – Pink Floyd

Richard Wright is one of my favorite keyboardists ever. He has a very unique style that few people can replicate. His sound is often described as “dreamy” or “ethereal” which makes sense considering how much time he spent studying classical music before joining Pink Floyd in 1965.

5. JOY DIVISION

Joy Division was an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band consisted of singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bass player Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris.

After signing to independent record label Factory Records in 1978, Joy Division released their debut album, Unknown Pleasures, in 1979 and recorded their follow-up, Closer, in 1980. Curtis took his own life on the eve of the band’s first American tour in May 1980. The remaining members achieved critical and commercial success with the follow-up albums, Substance (1987) and Technique (1989).

4. KRAFTWERK

Kraftwerk is a German electronic music band formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970 in Düsseldorf. Widely considered as innovators and pioneers of electronic music, they were among the first successful acts to popularize the genre.

The group began as part of West Germany’s experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, vocoders and sequencers.
