The term “DJ” is a bit of a misnomer in the world of electronic music. It’s not that they can’t play the guitar or sing, but that they don’t have to. EDM has increasingly become a genre built on the studio skillset of producers, rather than the performance abilities of artists. The DJ-producer is king and the best in the industry are busy perfecting their craft.
So who are these gods? With so many greats out there it’s hard to narrow down a list, but we did it anyway. From veterans like Eric Prydz to upstarts like Louis Futon, these are our picks for the top ten electronic music DJs of 2016.

As the year comes to a close, we’re taking a look back at the best music of 2016. But before we unveil our top albums and tracks of the year, we wanted to ask our favorite artists and DJs one simple question: What is your favorite electronic album or track of 2016?
We received responses from more than 100 musicians, including many of the DJs featured on our Top 100 DJs Poll. Among them are some surprising picks from artists who infrequently release electronic music; some picks from artists who rarely speak to the press; and some picks from artists who play out almost every weekend. There’s also a healthy dose of self-promotion as many producers name their own releases, while others drop names that they know will get people talking.
The responses are in no particular order, and we’ll be releasing them throughout the week. You can check out responses from DJ Snake and Adam Beyer below, and keep checking back to see what other artists have to say.
