Electronic music means something different to everyone. Electronic music is not just one genre, but a spectrum of different sounds and artists. There are many different types of electronic music such as electronica, house, techno, trance, dubstep, drum and bass, and many more. All these subgenres have their own sound and style but all stem from the same foundation of electronic music.

The very first electronic instruments were invented in the early 20th century or late 1800s such as the theremin and synthesizers. The term “electronic music” was coined in 1950s by an American composer called Milton Babbit. In the 1960s, Japanese composer Isao Tomita used early synthesizers to record his album Snowflakes Are Dancing which was the first album to be recorded with a synthesizer.

Nowadays in 2017 there are many different genres of electronic music that have emerged from the original styles like house and techno. Dubstep is a huge genre right now with artists like Excision and Zomboy, who play at massive festivals like EDC Las Vegas or Ultra Miami each year. Some other big names in electronic music right now are Flume, Marshmello, Madeon, Illenium, deadmau5, Daft Punk and more
