The 2010s were a time of great change in the world of electronic music: new subgenres and sounds were invented, artists rose to stardom, and many others faded away. In this blog post I will trace what I think are some of the most important musical developments that have happened in the last ten years, and some of the artists who have been influential in shaping the sound of EDM today. So without further ado, here are my picks for the top 5 EDM artists of the 2010s!

1. Skrillex: He’s probably one of the most influential producers in modern electronic music. His music has changed over time but his sound has stayed true to his roots as an underground artist with a strong affinity for dubstep.

The 2010s have been an interesting decade for EDM. We’ve seen massive festivals like Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, and Coachella spring up out of nowhere and become pop culture staples. We’ve watched as the genre went from a niche subculture to a global phenomenon that has sold out Madison Square Garden and attracted over a million people to the desert in Nevada to party under the light of the full moon.

That said, we’ve also seen a lot of EDM artists come and go during this time as well. Some have managed to stay relevant while others have faded into obscurity. Of those who managed to keep their head above water, some have had better success than others.
