I’m looking to simplify my rack of synths and sequencers. I’d like to work with as few pieces of gear as possible, while still having a wide palette of sounds to choose from. I’ve been using a handful of skb cases, with my main “rack” being a Doepfer A-100 with a Doepfer A-199 Spring Reverb module, which is in my opinion the best non digital reverb available for modular synths.

In the early days of electronic music, the only way to record your music was by using reel-to-reel tape machines. These were massive devices that were hard to transport and set up. The tape would record the music as an audio signal that had to be mixed together in real time. This meant that you could not make any mistakes in recording because you could not go back and fix your mistakes. If you made a mistake, you had to start over from the beginning.

The problem with these machines is that they were very expensive. For most people, it was too expensive to buy one of these machines so they would rent them from a studio or borrow one from a friend who owned one.

Nowadays, computers are used as a replacement for these analog tape machines and allow for much more flexibility in recording and editing your music. However, there is still something unique about reel-to-reel recordings that can’t be replicated digitally. Reel-to-reel tape machines record audio signals as they are being played, so they capture all of the nuances of sound that occur naturally when playing an instrument or singing into a microphone. This gives them a warmer more organic sound than what can be achieved with digital recording methods which often have cold sterile tones due

Minimal Music is a style of music which emphasizes sonic qualities of the timbres, rhythms, or harmonies used. It consists of long sustained tones, slow chord changes, or repeated small rhythmic patterns in a continuous texture. Minimalist composers often work with tape loops, electronic instruments and synthesizers.

The goal is to create atmosphere and space for the listener through the use of sound and repetition.
