Renowned electronic music producer Rezz, who has a new album out, has been interviewed by The Verge about her musical career and how she creates new songs.
“The first thing I think about when I’m writing a track is the melody — that’s where my head goes,” Rezz said. “I’m not going to sit there and think, ‘Oh, I don’t know what to do.’ No, I’m going to sit there and say, ‘Okay, this melody is super groovy.’ And then I’ll build a track around it.”
Rezz said her music was inspired by her love of video games and computer-generated imagery (CGI). She said she looked up to artists like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher because they were able to blend CGI with real-life images. Rezz also said she tried to create an album that felt like a movie.
“I wanted my album covers to have a cinematic feel,” Rezz said. “The idea is that it’s taking you on a journey through your mind.”
Rezz added that she wanted the album covers to mirror the feeling of watching a film while listening to the music.
