Electronic music is everywhere in New York City, especially during the summer. From outdoor concerts to nightclub performances, there are tons of places to hear your favorite DJs. While most of these events can get expensive if you’re not careful, there are tons of affordable ways to see electronic music in NYC. Here are some of our favorites.
1.The Dance Cartel at Brooklyn Night Bazaar
When: Every Thursday night starting May 21st
Where: Brooklyn Night Bazaar (165 Banker Street)
Cost: Free with RSVP (Or $10 at the door)
Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a popular shopping and music spot in Greenpoint that has plenty of entertainment options every week, including arcade games and a wide variety of food trucks. On Thursdays from May 21st through August 27th, The Dance Cartel will be hosting a free weekly dance party called “Get Lost” featuring guest DJs each week. You can RSVP online for free entry, or pay $10 at the door.
2.Brooklyn Mirage Opening Party & After-Hours at Avant Gardner

There are a ton of free and cheap electronic music events in NYC. There are also a ton of expensive ones too. I haven’t included the expensive ones, but will point out that if you’re in NYC for a few days on vacation, you should totally check out a big event once. They’re fun! (PS: Just because an event isn’t expensive doesn’t mean it’s bad either.)

Here’s a list of the best free and cheap EDM events that happen throughout the year. All of these are 21+ unless otherwise noted. The majority of these are weekly or monthly parties.
There are also some EDM festivals in New York City, including Electric Zoo, MoMa PS1 Warm Up, etc.

Chilltown Collective at Pine Box Rock Shop
Every Friday night at 11pm, Chilltown Collective hosts a dance party in the back room of Pine Box Rock Shop. DJs spin a variety of genres from indie to hip hop to trap to dubstep to house to drum n’ bass.
There’s no cover charge and there’s plenty of seating available for those who want to chill out instead of dancing.
The dance floor is right next to the bar and there are two restrooms inside the venue (one with an old school urinal trough).
Pine Box Rock Shop is located in Bushwick near the Morgan Ave L stop.

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival
New York’s Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival is a three-day festival at various locations throughout Williamsburg. Weekend passes are available for $99, and tickets start at $25 for individual events.
BRIC JazzFest
The annual BRIC JazzFest in Brooklyn features a wide range of jazz artists in venues throughout Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn. Tickets for individual shows start at about $20.
Mister Saturday Night
Mister Saturday Night hosts an electro/deep-house party every Saturday night with DJs Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin. The parties are held at a warehouse space in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn and admission is $10-$15.
Celebrate Brooklyn!
The summertime Celebrate Brooklyn series presents free concerts (with suggested donations) on weekday evenings and weekends at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Performers include electronic music artists as well as other genres of music.

Electronic music is a genre of music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production, an electronic musician being a musician who composes and/or performs such music. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means (electroacoustic music) and that produced using electronics only.
Electronic music was once associated almost entirely with Western art music but from the late 1960s on the availability of affordable music technology meant that music produced using electronic means became increasingly common in the popular domain. Today electronic music includes many varieties and ranges from experimental art music to popular forms such as electronic dance music. A distinction can be drawn between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology. Examples of electromechanical sound producing devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, and the electric guitar, which are typically made loud enough for performers and audiences to hear with an instrument amplifier and speaker cabinet. Pure electronic instruments do not have vibrating strings, hammers, or other sound-producing mechanisms. Devices such as the theremin, synthesizer, and computer can produce electronic sounds.
