The annual electronic music festival in Miami is known as Winter Music Conference. This is the most important and largest event for dance music industry taking place for five days since 1985 in March. It is not open to the public, audience can only be from professionals and artists from the industry. The conference which started with DJ’s, producers and dance artists has grown to people from top International DJs, Recording Industry Executives, Radio Programmers & Promotional Personnel, Music Publishers, Record Company A&R Reps, Managers, Producers and Retailers.

Winter Music Conference was originally a four-day event in March 1985 by Bill Kelly (Executive Director) and Louis Possenti (Promotional Director). In 1998 it was extended to five days. It is a combination of an information trade show with seminars; a private beach party where promotional records are distributed; and a public festival with live performances by artists and DJs.

The first WMC was held on 5th December 1985 in Fort Lauderdale at the Marriott Hotel. It was attended by 300 delegates from 23 US states along with Canada and Great Britain.
