Well-crafted electronic music is a must on any summer playlist. There’s something about electrified sounds and audio effects that makes them perfect for those hot, humid days. Whether you’re throwing a pool party or just chilling out in the sun with headphones, here are 12 of our favorite artists from last year who make the best electronic music.
You might have heard of some of these artists, but there are a few you probably haven’t. These are all artists we’re excited to follow this year because their unique musical styles make them stand out from the crowd.

Electronic music is the music of the future. The sounds of synthesizers and computers have been around for decades and have evolved into what we know as EDM today. Electronic dance music is a big part of pop culture and is only growing more popular every year. Artists like Skrillex, Diplo, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, and Deadmau5 are some that come to mind when thinking about electronic music, but there is a whole other world out there that you need to discover!
Electronic music originated in the 1970s with the use of synthesizers, drum machines, and electronic percussion instruments like the TR-808 drum machine created by Roland Corporation in 1980. This machine was used by artists like Kanye West, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Charlie XCX and more.
Electronic music has many different subgenres such as house, techno, bassline/4-to-the-floor (UK garage), electro (not to be confused with electroclash) and more. Each subgenre has its own distinct sound which can be heard on this playlist below:
