Electronic music has been around for a long time, and I’ve always wanted to write about it. But I’m no expert. I’d like to be, but I don’t really have the knowledge. The reason I don’t know much about electronic music is that, as a genre, it has never really appealed to me. The first electronic album I ever heard was Kraftwerk’s Autobahn. It was 1974, and my parents had just bought their first record player. My father put on the album and said, “Here son, listen to this. It will blow your mind!”

I listened to it with my brothers and sisters, and we all agreed that it was terrible. We couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. We didn’t get why people liked this music so much when they could just listen to rock n roll instead.

But I did like one song on the album: “Autobahn.” And that was because of the lyrics: “Du du du du du du…

This particular genre is one that has grown in popularity over the years and continues to attract more and more fans by the day.

With that being said, I have been an avid listener of electronic music and have my own personal collection of favorite artists. I have put together a list of seven electronic music artists that every indie lover should hear. Some love electronic music too. Electronic music is the latest trend nowadays, and it is becoming more popular by the minute. This French band was formed in 2001, and the name was inspired by a galaxy – Messier 83. Its founder and lead singer Anthony Gonzalez released his first album in 2001, but he didn’t become famous until 2008 when he released one of his most popular songs – “Midnight City”.

The name of this American electronic musician, singer/songwriter and DJ is Richard Melville Hall. He started creating music at the age of 9, and he became popular in the early 90s with his hit “Go”. 1. Mura Masa: Mura Masa is the project of 21 year old Alex Crossan from Guernsey, a self-taught producer and multi-instrumentalist who crafts electronic pop songs that are as exotic as they are experimental. Listen to “What If I Go?” for one of his best tracks.

2. Metric: The band’s name stands for the millimetre, which is also slightly longer than “metre”, but only by one letter and an extra ‘e’. They are known for their synth-driven style and dynamic live performances, and they’re really really good! Listen to “Youth Without Youth” for one of their best tracks.

3. The Knocks: The Knocks are an American electronic music duo consisting of Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson. They are known for their own releases on labels such as Neon Gold Records, Kitsuné Music and Big Beat Records, as well as their remixes

The Swedish electronic music duo The Knife, composed of brother and sister Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson, produces dark, brooding and mysterious electronic music. Their 2013 album Shaking the Habitual discussed such topics as feminism, climate change and gender equality in a very literal way. Their show at Terminal 5 in New York City was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It was theatrical, visual and sonically perfect.

2. Moderat

Formed from the collaboration between Berlin-based electronic musicians Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary) and Apparat (Sascha Ring), Moderat has created a distinct sound that incorporates elements of IDM (intelligent dance music), techno, ambient and downtempo genres. Their most recent album II was released in 2013; it was preceded by their self-titled debut in 2009.
