Is Electronic Dance Music (EDM) good for studying? I know what you’re thinking. You’ve never seen a festival attendee in the library. You’ve never seen any of your friends listening to EDM while studying. And you certainly haven’t tried it yourself.

But that doesn’t mean you should dismiss this idea without giving it a try. There are many benefits to listening to music while studying, and EDM can in fact be one of the best genres to listen to when you want to get work done.

Disclaimer: It’s important to note that not everyone likes EDM, and some people don’t like listening to music when they study at all. If that’s the case for you, then by all means ignore this article. I won’t be offended if you go back to reading Moby Dick or The Art of War instead!

I know what many of you are thinking right now. Electronic music? Studying? Those two things have nothing to do with each other.

Well, that is not entirely true. Everyone has a unique way of studying that works best for them and for some people, listening to music while studying is one of those ways.

The problem is that not everyone can listen to just any type of music while studying. You cannot listen to heavy metal, rap or any other fast-paced music. While you may enjoy that type of music when you are working out or hanging out with friends, it is definitely not something you want to listen to when you are trying to study and focus on your homework.

And that is why I believe electronic dance music (EDM) is the best type of music to listen to while studying.

For those who do not know much about EDM, it’s basically a type of electronic music that was created by DJs and record producers by using electronic equipment like synthesizers, drum machines, digital audio workstations, sequencers and samplers. There are many different types of EDM genres including house, trance and dubstep just to name a few.

5. It’s an exciting new genre of music that everyone loves!

7. There are many different sub-genres to suit your mood & taste in music (Trance, House, Electro, Dubstep, etc.).

8. It motivates you to get things done and works as a reward system for when you complete tasks on your “to-do list”.

9. There are many study playlists on Spotify and YouTube that last for hours!

10. Listening to EDM has changed the way I study and I hope it will do the same for you!

I’ve been asked this question a lot over the past year.

I’ll admit, my answer is a little delayed, and for that I apologize.

I think that the answer to this question is very personal to every individual, and so I hesitated in answering such a subjective question.

I wanted my answer to be as accurate as possible, and so I decided that instead of answering from my own personal experience, I would ask all of you! That way, it would be more representative of the whole community.

The result was very interesting! And rather than me summarize what you told me, I’m going to let you do it yourself! Below I have picked out some of the most common reasons EDM listeners gave for why they listen to EDM while studying. I have hidden their identities in order to maintain privacy!
