My musical journey has been a long and winding road, filled with numerous collaborations with some of the most renowned artists in the industry. One of the most significant collaborations I have had the privilege of being a part of is with the legendary composer, Illaiyaraja. Our collaboration has resulted in some of the most iconic and memorable songs in Indian cinema. • Some of the notable songs we have worked on together include Kolaveri Di and Mannippu.
These two musicians have been a huge inspiration to me. I have had the privilege of attending numerous concerts and performances by both musicians, and I have been a huge fan of their work for many years. I have also been a part of the jazz community for many years, so I have had the opportunity to interact with other musicians who have been influenced by John and Zakir’s music. Both John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain are known for their unique musical styles and contributions to the jazz and world music genres. John McLaughlin, a British guitarist, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative guitarists of all time. He has had a significant impact on the development of jazz-rock and fusion music, and his playing style is characterized by his use of advanced techniques such as harmonic minor and melodic minor scales. McLaughlin’s work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, a pioneering jazz-rock band, has been particularly influential, with albums such as Birds of Fire and The Inner Mounting Flame showcasing his unique guitar playing. Zakir Hussain, an Indian tabla player, is also a highly respected and influential musician in the world music genre. He is known for his mastery of the tabla, a traditional Indian percussion instrument, and his ability to blend Indian classical music with jazz and rock influences.

Understanding the Raga
The raga is the essence of Indian Classical music. It is a melodic framework that provides the structure and the essence of the music. The raga is a combination of three elements: swara, laya, and alankar. The swara refers to the notes of the raga, the laya refers to the speed or the tempo of the music, and the alankar refers to the ornaments or the embellishments that are added to the music. • The swara is the most important element of the raga.
