Psytrance

First off all: Happy New Year!!! May this year be amazing for us all.

So, what will the year bring us, music-wise? In this blog article I want to talk about the latest trends in Psytrance, and what we can expect for this coming year. And also, there are some new developments with the label that I would like to share!

What is happening in Psytrance?

As you know if you have been following me closely, I believe that Psychedelic Trance music is evolving in a very interesting way. Something that is not surprising since it is quite a young genre of music. It all started with Goa Trance back in the early 1990s, and it has been evolving ever since.

In the last few years many sub genres have developed within Psytrance music: Darkpsy, Hightech, Forest (I do not really like the name), Hi-tech and Fullon are just a few examples. Every subgenre has a different sound and different tempo (BPM). Most of them are about 145 BPM except for Forest which often goes up to 155 BPM or even more!

Psytrance, also known as Psychedelic Trance, Psytrance or just Psy is the latest dance music phenomenon to hit the world. This is an electronic dance music genre that originated in Goa in India during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The main characteristic of Psytrance is its driving bass lines and hypnotic melodies, mixed with complex synthesizer sounds. The tempo of Psytrance ranges from 135 to 150 beats per minute with a four-on-the-floor beat structure.

Psytrance is created by producers who use digital audio workstations on their computers. The first Psytrance producer was probably Goa Gil from California (USA) who was influenced by the music of Goa (India). Today there are many known Psytrance producers around the world such as Talamasca, Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, 1200 Micrograms, Shpongle, X-Dream and Astrix.

Psytrance is played at outdoor festivals all over the world. Some of these festivals are massive; for example, Japan’s annual Fuji Rock Festival attracts more than 100 000 visitors each year!

This site is dedicated to Psychedelic Trance. What is Psytrance? Psychedelic trance, psytrance or simply psy (derived from the Ancient Greek word ψυχή “psyche”, mind; soul; breath; spirit) is a form of electronic music characterized by hypnotic arrangements of synthetic rhythms and complex layered melodies created by high tempo riffs. By 2010, the genre’s mainstream popularity saw it being referred to as Psytrance.

The genre offers variety in terms of mood, tempo, and style. Some examples include full on, darkpsy, forest, minimal (also called micro), progressive (or prog), suomi, psy-chill, psycore and psybient. The term may also include ambient music with psychedelic influence such as Shpongle and other related genres such as goa trance and its subgenres

It has been described as the most popular form of underground dance music among young Israelis.

Psychedelic electronic music (also known as psychedelic trance, psytrance or simply psy) is a form of electronic music characterized by arrangements of synthetic rhythms and layered melodies created by high tempo riffs. Psychedelic trance emphasizes a repetitive, trance-inducing rhythm with sounds often described as hypnotic, mechanical, robotic or alien in nature.

Psychedelic trance tracks are usually between 135 and 150 BPM. Some examples of artists who produce psychedelic trance include X-Dream, Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogen and Astrix.

It is very difficult to tell the difference between a Goa trance artist and a psytrance artist because both genres sound very similar. Sometimes people use the term “psytrance” to describe full-on Goa trance artists such as Astral Projection. However, most people would consider an artist like Astral Projection to be more of a Goa trance artist than a psytrance artist. In general (and in this website), we consider Goa trance to be the older form of psychedelic electronic music that was popular in the mid 1990s. Although there are still some artists who produce Goa trance music, it is not as popular now as it once was and has been largely replaced by psytrance.

Psychedelic music is an unusual genre. It can be categorized under trance, ambient, or even classical music, but it’s really its own genre. It has a distinctive sound that is distinct from other types of music.

There are many different styles of psychedelic music, and they all have their own unique sound. But there are some common elements to all psychedelic music:

Elements of Psychedelic Music

1) Bass

2) Percussion

3) Synths

4) Arpeggios

5) Fx/Sfx (Sound Effects)

There is an electronic music genre called psytrance and it’s been around since the late 80s! Psytrance is a genre of trance music that has a distinctive stylistic psychedelic theme. The genre is also known as “psychedelic trance”, “acid trance” or simply “psy”.

Psychedelic trance music is usually between 145 and 160 BPM (beats per minute), with a bass drum on every downbeat and a high hat sound on every upbeat. A typical song consists of two parts: a slower section followed by a faster one, although some songs may not include a break or have more than two parts.

The musical elements of psytrance often resemble those found in techno, trance and house music. However, there are some notable differences. The most important being the prominent use of psychedelic sounds. This includes samples such as birds chirping, water dripping, wind blowing, bells ringing etc., and can also include synthesizers which create these sounds artificially.

Most artists who create psychedelic trance use many different instruments in their songs, including drums (usually electronic), keyboards (also called synths), basses (which may be electronic or acoustic) and various other effects like reverb, delay etcetera. Many artists use samples from

The term “psytrance” is a contraction of the terms “psychedelic trance”. It is difficult to trace the origin of the term, but it is generally assumed to have been first used by Goa Trance DJs in the early 1990s. Psytrance is a form of electronic dance music characterized by hypnotic arrangements of synthetic rhythms and complex layered melodies created by high tempo riffs.

Psytrance lies at the hardcore, underground end of the diverse trance spectrum. The genre offers variety in terms of mood, tempo, and style. Some examples include full on, darkpsy, Hi-Tech, progressive, suomi, psy-chill; psycore; psybient; psybreaks; psydub and Goa Trance. Goa Trance has evolved from the early experiments of psychedelic parties in Goa that combined sounds like new wave, acid house and techno with Indian music like Kathak and Kuchipudi dance styles together with mantra chanting and elements from yoga. The first generally accepted appearance of the term “Goa trance” is on the compilation album A Voyage into Trance (1992) released by Tandava Records on which side B was labeled as “Goa Trance”.
