The first thing that many people ask is “How do I find a good factory in China or Hong Kong?” or “Where can I find a list of Chinese manufacturers?”. The answer is “it depends.” It depends on what you are looking for, what kind of products you want to buy, how big of an order you want to place… the list goes on and on. I’ve been asked by a few people to give some tips on how to choose a Hong Kong supplier. I must admit, I’m no expert. But here is what I do:

1. First, I research my product on Alibaba or Global Sources. This helps me get an idea of what my product would cost per unit.

2. I then submit a request for quote (RFQ) to at least 10 suppliers.

3. The next step is to look at the company profiles of the companies that reply to my RFQ’s and do Google searches on them. Some of the things that I look for are:

a. How long have they been in business?

b. Are they a manufacturer or trading company?

c. Did their profile say anything about the experience with this sort of product?

d. I also take note of the prices that come back from each supplier and compare them to my target price for this item (which is based on my initial findings from Alibaba and Global Sources). If prices seem too high, then I know that it might be time to consider another factory or even another country altogether!

This process takes a bit of time but it’s worth it because once you find your perfect
